#TheAvengers Event #Movies Review ? 7 Reasons Your Entire ...

Super stars, super heroes, super action and super comedy. One of this summer?s most eagerly anticipated movies for kids and grown ups alike?Marvel?s The Avengers is almost here and coming to theaters in just a few days!

As one of the this summer?s hottest blockbusters this star studded cast of the?world?s greatest Super Heroes assemble when Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) join S.H.I.E.L.D.?s Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to protect the world from the dangerous and powerful villain, Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

While it?s not opening here in the US until Friday May, 4th, Marvel?s the Avengers opened?number 1 many foreign markets over the weekend and set huge records in many countries around the world for opening weekend of a film. I know many of you this movie on your must see list and over the weekend, I had an amazing opportunity to check out an advance preview of this film. Here?s why your family (Dads, kids and a Mom?s too!) is going to love this movie.

1. Super Stars Playing Super Heroes

It?s hard not be star struck by the huge line up of mega-stars in this summer blockbuster. While most of these actors have had their own films (some more than one) as their individual super hero character, their star power is combined and it?s hard not to be blown away by the number of major celebrities all working (and fighting)?together in this film.

2. Marvel Characters Fighting Together (and With Each Other!)

Marvel fans are going to love not only seeing some of this brand?s biggest characters fighting together with the bad guys ? but also with each other! I won?t ruin?it with spoilers, but let?s just say the fight scenes are super cool and you won?t be disappointed!

3. A Super Bad Super Villain

Yeah Tom Hiddleston (a.k.a. ?Loki) was a bad guy in Thor, but he?s a REALLY bad guy in the Avengers and his character is so much more refined and developed in Marvel?s The Avengers. His performance is right on target and he?s a great bad guy without being too scary for kids. They couldn?t have cast a better star to play this big screen villain? ? plus he?s super cute and super charming in real life!

4. Who Knew a Superhero Movie Could be So Funny?
Yes I know that this is an action flick, but it?s also seriously one of the funniest movies I?ve seen in a very long time. The audience was rolling, laughing out loud and clapping with the clever quips and one liners. The humor was well done, well timed and helped make this movie even more entertaining. There?s some great quotes that you just can?t miss and Robert Downey Jr. fans won?t be disappointed!

5. Girls Kick Some Serious Butt Too
One of the things that seriously ticks me off about many films, including most action films is the pathetic portrayal of women and the poor example it sets for young girls. They often show women as weak, needing rescued and not able to care for themselves.I LOVED that in Marvel?s the Avengers the female characters played by Cobie Smulders and Scarlett Johansson were strong, smart and able to hold their own. The interrogation scene with Scarlett Johansson is just awesome and?my only complaint is that?I want to see them?have bigger roles?in any upcoming films!

6. Some Great Eye Candy For Us Ladies
Ladies, you have to admit that there?s some really pretty guys to watch in some great outfits. Enough said.

7. It?s Family Friendly ? Really!

We take our kids to a LOT of movies and one of my biggest pet peeves about many family movies is when they contain inappropriate humor and scenes that are totally unnecessary. Marvel?s The Avengers is officially rated PG-13 for ?intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, and a mild drug reference? however in this mom?s opinion it?s also perfectly fine for a little bit younger kids as well.

The barely there drug reference is gonna be missed by most and the fight scenes ? while they show violence, aren?t really any more violent than what?s on regular everyday?TV and are edited well to protect young viewers. There?s no?inappropriate sexual content and only one or two expletives that were so minor you?ll probably miss. The humor is funny, but also clean enough for kids to understand and enjoy.??Elementary school?age kids?who?have the attention span to sit through a longer movie will do just fine and young super hero fans are going to?love it!?

Over all, this is a really great and a family friendly film. My kids are still a little too young to attend, but my many nephews (who are HUGE super hero nuts) are gonna love it and I can?t wait for them to see it!?You?ve gotta see this one?in theaters where it?s going to be available in both 2D and 3D, and be sure to stick around into the credits for a special scene at the end you won?t want to miss!

Canada's oldest microbrewer brings seasonal to Ontario

If I were to tell you that craft brewing in Canada started under a bridge you might get the wrong impression, but it's absolutely true.

In 1984, Granville Island Brewing opened its doors in Vancouver, under the girders of the Granville Bridge. The first beer the company produced was Granville Island Lager, which has remained in its lineup to this day.

The brewery has grown and expanded from that initial brew over the last 28 years in interesting and unexpected ways, going through changes in ownership up until its eventual purchase by Molson Coors subsidiary Creemore Springs in 2009.

The last decade has marked significant expansion with a new, larger brewing facility in Kelowna, B.C., where the majority of Granville Island's beers are now produced. While the original brewery is still there, it's currently used mostly for brewing seasonal and speciality beers. It also hosts three tours daily, enlightening craft beer fans and tourists alike.

The focus on seasonal and specialty beers has become prodigious, more than doubling the number of year-round offerings produced by Granville Island. When I spoke to brewmaster Vern Lambourne, he was in the midst of mashing in a Cascadian Dark Ale, the next of the brewery's limited-release series. Typically, the mash is one of the best times to talk to a brewer, who would otherwise be occupied by staring thoughtfully into the distance while the brew day gets started.

Currently, Granville Island is experimenting with wider distribution interprovincially. Their English Bay Pale Ale, which had previously been available in B.C. and Alberta, launched in Ontario to little critical reception in 2010. Possibly, this was due to the large number of Pale Ales already available in Ontario. The style is a craft brewing staple and one additional example, even if it's a good one, will not grab the market by the lapels and shout "drink me."

This time around the company is bringing one of its seasonal offerings: Robson Street Hefeweizen, which received a silver medal at the 2010 World Beer Championships.

"Most of the flavour comes from the yeast," said Lambourne. There are clove and banana flavours, as are to be expected in a Bavarian wheat beer, but also a subtle hint of orange. It pours a cloudy light orange colour with a fluffy white head. The cloudiness is due to the protein from the substantial amount of wheat used to brew the beer. It hovers between sweet and mildly tart on the palate, with a dry finish.

In terms of pairing with food, it goes well with such brunch dishes as eggs benedict and stands up to foods with a smoky flavour.

"It's especially good with lox," said Lambourne, and spicy Thai food as well. If you were a Bavarian, you might want to try it with weisswurst and sauerkraut.

The arrival of Granville Island's Robson Street Hefeweizen in Ontario signals an interesting willingness to experiment with expansion without resorting to the use of flagship brands. While Granville Island has won several awards for its regular lineup over the last few years, this does not seem to be an attempt to anchor a brand permanently on the shelf in Ontario. It's a summer listing which will be available for a limited time.

This is a good sign because it means that we may see other specialty beers from Granville Island in Ontario in the near future. Their specialties are already available in Alberta, but this is a much larger leap of faith, which adds to what is becoming a far more diverse representation of Canadian beer across the country.

Granville Island is building a bridge instead of just sitting under one.
